LNG VALUE CHAIN
KIORCC has been conducting the research to support the development of LNG infrastructures in Indonesia through the collaboration with Korean companies and technology providers. KIORCC supports both investment opportunity as well as LNG supply chain technology collaboration, including in liquefaction, storage, regasification and transportation facilities.
One of the recent research in LNG sector is related to Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) Ministerial Decree No. 2/ 2022 or widely known as “Kepmen 2/2022” which stipulates the implementation of power plants gasification in Indonesia. There are 33 power plants to be converted to gas-fired which are listed under Kepmen 2/2022 and grouped into several clusters. KIORCC supports the collaboration with the related stakeholders in order to study the suitable plan for these clusters by bridging with the Korean expertise in LNG facilities to review the study.
Another recent regulation is from IMO 2020 which mandates the maximum sulphur content of 0.5% in marine fuels globally in order to reduce the air pollution created in the shipping industry. This regulation also opens the opportunity of LNG utilization as marine fuel in Indonesia as LNG produces lower carbon emission compared to conventional marine fuel. KIORCC also supports the joint study with Indonesian companies to assess the aspects in implementing LNG utilization for vessel fuel and understand the challenge and opportunity in implementing LNG bunkering and LNG-fueled vessel conversion in Indonesia. This study bridges the knowledge gap with the support of Korean companies who have relevant experiences in the sector.
